LOCAL QUALIFYING EVENT RESULTS PRESS RELEASE Area Youth Participated in Jr. Olympic Skills Competition Local youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 participated in the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition. This free grassroots youth participation program allows boys and girls, competing separately, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four (4) athletic events - basketball, soccer, tennis and track & field. The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sport while promoting sportsmanship. The Basketball, Soccer, Tennis and Track & Field portion of the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition was hosted by the Alsip Park District on Saturday, May 10, 2008. The Champions in the Basketball portion of the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition were: 10-11 year olds: Clifton Eubanks of Alsip 12-13 year olds: Jonathan Padron of The Champions in the Soccer portion of the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition were: 8-9 year olds: Harley Ortiz of 10-11 year olds: Kevin Gomez of 12-13 year olds: Jonathan Padron of The Champions in the Tennis portion of the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition were: 8-9 year olds: Jeset Salgado of 10-11 year olds: Kevin Gomez of 12-13 year olds: Jonathan Padron of The Champions in the Track & Field portion of the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition were: 8-9 year olds: Jeset Salgado of 10-11 year olds: Kevin Gomez of 12-13 year olds: Jonathan Padron of Alsip The Board of Commissioners and Staff of the Alsip Park District would like to congratulate these individuals and wish them luck in the Regional Competition! These Champions will advance to the Regional Competition to be held at the Chicago Park District on Saturday, May 24, 2008. This is one of the Regional Competitions being held nationwide that will determine those youngsters advancing to the National Finals. For more information on the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition visit www.jrolympicskills.com Alsip Park District Director receives "Young Professional of the Year" Award The Illinois Park and Recreation Association presented Jeannette Huber, Director of the Alsip Park District the "Young Professional of the Year" Award. This award is presented at the Illinois Park and Recreation Association and Illinois Association of Park District Joint Conference held every year in January. "Congratulations Jeannette".
Announcing The Alsip Park District was invited to give a presentation on the OSLAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition Development) grant application that was submitted for the Redevelopment of Sears Park. Board and staff traveled to Springfield, Illinois this past fall to present to the grant review committee. Grant award money is anticipated to be announced early in 2008. Intergovernmental Agreement The Park Board of Commissioners recently entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Palos Heights, Village of Palos Park and the Forest Preserve District of Cook County for Phase I Engineering of a Multi-Use Path proposed along the Cal-Sag Canal. Phase I Engineering will cover the portion of Alsip on the north side of the canal from Ridgeland Avenue to the Boat Launch. These communities received a grant from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program to assist in Phase I engineering of thee project. Sled Hill Join us this winter for some sledding in your own neighborhood park. The Alsip Park District Park Board of Commissioners is proud to announce that a sled hill has been added at Commissioners Park , located at 126th and Kedzie Avenue.
